Linked In

Today was pretty quiet at the office, with the exception of construction noise and trolley car bells. I spent most of my day learning new programs, sitting in on client calls, and getting Linked In!!

A suggestion from my mentor was to take some time and get connected on Linked In. So, if I have not connected with you yet, please find my page!

I also had the opportunity to get trained on Cision, which is a research-based site to link with media across the country. It is a staple in PR firms today, and I was blown away by all the fantastic features it entails.

Everyone in the office went out for a welcome lunch today. I had a chance to just sit around and visit with my co-workers on a 75 degree, sunny, no wind day in San Francisco...simply put, it was WONDERFUL!!!!

After work, I headed to the YMCA for a great workout, and then I bussed back to the island.

My deal of the day came from my purchase of Cub/Giants tickets for tomorrow night's game in San Francisco!! I will be on the 13th row of the left field bleachers for $11...BANG!! StubHub really came through on that one. I can't wait to sport my World Series Cardinals shirt for all to see!! :)

My first week is almost coming to a close. I have already learned so much, and I am very happy my mentorship ended up here.

Thanks for reading, and I will post again soon. The weekend is near!!

Technology

Technology is wonderful- when it works!! However, it can be frustrating when it does not work. I went through an extensive Human Resource intern training session this morning at the office, but my laptop was giving me fits with Adobe. So, it turned out to be quite the interesting morning!! However, all turned out well. I made it through the training and had another successful day at the office.

I spent a majority of my day researching for one of the firm's clients. Public Relations research is unlike anything else, because reading blogs and customer reviews is an extremely appropriate move when preparing an angle for the release of a new or improved product. I definitely learned a lot about researching today.

After work, I headed over to the YMCA and got another great workout in. I then headed back to Treasure Island and just relaxed for the night. I frugally packed for this trip, so I have to do laundry a lot more than you might expect!

Tomorrow, I will be going through a couple training sessions and going out to lunch with the staff members from the office. It has been a whirlwind first week here in the Bay Area, but I am loving every minute of it!!

That is all for today. Thanks for reading, and I will post again soon.

Cheers!

First Day

The first day at the office was a success!

The three-day weekend created a log-jam of work for my mentor, but she helped through the "red tape" of opening day on the job.

I have my own MacBook Pro while I am here, so I am definitely enjoying the perks of that! I spent some time listening in on client calls, while also doing some research for up-and-coming press releases that the office will be doing.

My posts will be a little vague as far as work goes. The PR firm does not allow for specific information about my work or about clients to be given (obviously), but I will try to give a general idea about what is going on throughout the day.

After work, I stopped by the Embarcadero YMCA and took out a membership. I had a great workout, then I headed back to TI (Treasure Island) for a little while. I came back into the city later in the evening, and I attended a theater concert performance with some of my brother's friends. The band was called Dry The River. It was a little outside of the normal genre of music I enjoy, but it was an enjoyable event overall!

I will post later today on all of this day's happenings, but I wanted to get a quick update on yesterday. Once I got back from the theater last night, I went straight to bed rather than stay up and post! I hope all is well back home.

Thanks for reading!!

A Memorial Day to Remember

My first full day in San Francisco was truly one to remember! Well, besides the fact that my body determined 6:30 a.m. CST was still an appropriate time to arise (4:30 a.m. PST)!!

I ate some breakfast at my townhouse, and I headed out for the day. I figured out the public transit system, and I explored downtown all morning. I purchased my Clipper Card, which is my monthly pass to all the public transit in the city! Then, I sat down and did some quality people-watching for a while next to the ocean!!

After a quick trip back to the townhouse for some lunch, I headed downtown again for the 2 p.m. first pitch between the San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks at AT&T Park!! Did you really think I would totally abandon sports for a day? :) The Giants were victorious and the Memorial Day festivities at the ballpark were AWESOME!!!!

I left the ballgame and headed to the Caltrain, which took me south of town to Palo Alto. I met up with my brother at the station, and we headed to meet up with some prominent individuals from Stanford, and I had the opportunity to visit with one of the top men who founded Facebook (not Zuckerberg, though). It was a lot of fun, and the Memorial Day fun was topped off with an evening cookout at a local friend's house in Palo Alto.

San Francisco is very accessible, and I enjoyed my first full day here!! I begin work tomorrow, so it is time to get some shut-eye for the night. I look forward to sharing many great experiences with you on this trip, and as always, thanks for reading!!

We aren't in Kansas anymore Todo...

I have arrived in San Francisco!!

A great trip out here, highlighted by a fantastic discovery of Air Choice One (a small, taxi plane service from Decatur to O'Hare)! Everything was smooth, and I am now blogging from my townhouse.

The view from Treasure Island is breathtaking, as the San Francisco skyline is one direction and the Golden Gate Bridge/Alcatraz is the other.

I felt very welcomed into town tonight, because there was a spectacular fireworks show! The 75th year of the Golden Gate Bridge was the reason for the celebration, but I looked at it as a welcoming gift!!

A big shoutout to my brother, Wes, and his fiance, Rebecca, for picking me up at the airport, taking me out to a wonderful seafood/meat dinner (even if I couldn't pronounce half the menu items), and dropping me/groceries off at the townhouse.

I look forward to a wonderful month in the Bay area, and I hope to entertain all of you with daily blog posts!! Thanks for reading!!
